Diane Edwards
Accredited tutor:ย Pulled thread
Accredited judge:ย All techniques
Growing up in rural Victoria, Diane was surrounded by women in her family creating: her great grandmother crocheted lace doilies; her grandmothers enjoyed fine embroidery, crochet, knitting and sewing; and her mum loved embroidery, sewing and crochet. Diane has always been interested in stitch and the artistry involved.
When living in Sydney for many years, she was an active member of the NSW Guild, involved with both general and technique-based groups. She enjoys counted techniques โ pulled thread being a constant โ plus goldwork and surface work, tambour and couture beading, needlelace and crewel work.
With the NSW Guild, she completed the Basic course, Introduction to Embroidery, the Practical Teaching Skills course and, in 2022, completed the new NSW Guildโs Contemporary Stitch and Design course. Over the years she has undertaken a number of classes with local and international tutors to further her knowledge of a technique and/or skill and design.
One more challenge then presented itself: the Judgeโs Accreditation. This course has further boosted her knowledge and understanding of stitch, technique, tools and design, and was worth the investment to complete in 2024.
Diane is inspired by texture and detail, and is still learning and exploring all aspects of embroidery and how they can be interpreted into a stitched or embroidered work.
