Essential Embroidery Skills Classes
The aim of the Essential Embroidery Skills course is to assist members to produce well designed and finished embroideries by focusing on the following techniques:
Design for embroidery
Exploring elements of design to use in embroidery projects.
Colour for embroidery
Understanding colour is important in designing beautiful and affective embroidery. Learn which colours work well together and which colours don’t, and why.
Exploring more stitches
An opportunity to further develop a repertoire of stitches.
Mounting
This class will explore techniques to prepare and mount your embroidery for display. We will look at sewn and lacing techniques to finish your embroidery. The techniques are also suitable for box making.
Hems and hemstitching
Learn how to mitre hems, both wide and narrow plus hem stitching and other stitches.
Machine finishing
Do you love to embroider but need to learn the art of making up your finished piece? This class will provide direction on how to create a variety of finished articles.
Essential Embroidery Skills certificate
Upon completing a class, participants may produce a small project to be assessed by the relevant tutor. To obtain the Essential Embroidery Skills certificate, all six classes must be attended and a successful assessment gained. Alternatively, classes can be done individually without assessment.
